The Defense Video & Imagery Distribution System, acronym DVIDS, is an American media and public relations operation run by the Defense Media Activity (Defense Media Activity), on behalf of the Department of Defense.[1] The operation supports all branches of the U.S. military and its coalition partners serving Worldwide.
Operations
DVIDS receives public affairs and combat camera content and live video feeds from a network of portable Ku-band satellite transmitters, located in various places around the world, as well as in a hub in Atlanta, Georgia.[2] DVIDS provides to the media and the public videos, photographs and print products, including publications,[3][4] as well as interviews with service members, commanders and non-military experts.[5] DVIDS currently uses Aspera software for its data and imagery transmission and storage needs.[6]
The Director of DVIDS Operations is Logistics officer Major Scott M. Betts.[7]
