KKNG-FM (97.3 FM) in Oklahoma City is a radio station broadcasting a Catholic religious format.[1] Licensed to Blanchard, Oklahoma, USA, the station serves the Blanchard, Oklahoma area. The station is currently owned by Stanton Nelson, through licensee WPA Radio, LLC.[2]
History
The station broadcast with the calls KBXR beginning in March 1984 and was licensed to Weatherford, Oklahoma. The station changed calls to KWEY-FM on September 20, 1991. The station previously used the moniker "97.3 The Coyote" when it was a country station before changing calls to KOJK in February 2006. During this time, it moved closer to Oklahoma City and began using the ABC Networks' "Jack FM" network for programming.
On March 8, 2010, KOJK dropped the Jack FM format. The last song on 97.3 Jack FM was "I'll Cry Instead" by The Beatles. 97.3 Jack FM became known as 97.3 King Country KKNG-FM.
Former On-Air DJ's included:
Lynn Waggoner - Mornings, Vanessa Valli - Midday, Owen Pickard - Afternoon Drive, Carly Rae - Nights. There were no weekend DJ's; except for the Sunday Morning Gospel Show which was on 97.3 KKNG from 7AM-11AM. The Sunday Morning Gospel Show is hosted by Lynn Waggoner.
On February 28th, 2013, after playing "You're the Only One I Ever Needed" by Dolly Parton, KKNG changed their format from country to Catholic religious.[3]
