Lisa Scottoline (born July 1, 1955) is an American author of legal thrillers.[1] According to her website, her last name is pronounced as if it rhymes with fettuccine or scaloppine.[2]

Life

Born in Philadelphia, Scottoline earned an undergraduate degree, as well as a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and later became a litigator at a law firm in Philadelphia.[3] After the birth of her daughter she left the law firm and started writing, as a way to earn money from home.[3] Final Appeal received the 1995 Edgar Award for "Best Paperback Original Mystery,"[4] She has since written 14 bestselling novels, including Look Again and Don't Go, both which reached number two on the New York Times Best Seller List.[5][6] Her novels have been translated into 25 languages.[citation needed]

Since March 2007 Scottoline has been writing the "Chick Wit" column for The Philadelphia Inquirer.[7][8] A collection of her columns was compiled in a book entitled Why My Third Husband Will Be A Dog: The Amazing Adventures of an Ordinary Woman and published on November 24, 2009.
