He was promoted to Reader in 1994. In the same year, he was elected Dean of Trinity College.[5] In 2000, he was appointed Professor of Astrophysical Fluid dynamics.[1] He was elected Vice-Master of Trinity College in 2006, deputising for Lord Rees.[5] In 2012, he was elected Provost of King's College, Cambridge.[4] He moved from Trinity to King's to take up the position at the start of the 2013 academic year.[1]
Honours
In 1977, Proctor was elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS).[1] He was awarded a Doctor of Science (ScD) degree by the University of Cambridge in 1995.[3] He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2006,[6][7] and as a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (FIMA) in 2007.[1]
