Parliamentary elections were held in Iran in 1947. They were won by the National Front, as a new party. The parliament was opened on 17 July, and appointed Mohammad Mossadegh as Prime Minister. In 1941 Reza Khan was forced, by the invading British, to abdicate in favor of his son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi who replaced his father as Shah on the throne on September 16, 1941.

Workers of the oil refinery of Abadan were in 1947 forced by poor working conditions to proclaim the biggest Iranian strike ever, and W. Averell Harriman, Truman's personal envoy in Iran, was shocked by the appalling conditions of the workers employed by BP. This gave him massive popularity in Iran.

The seats available were in the National Consultative Assembly and the Senate.
