1959 World Weightlifting Championships
The 1959 Men's World Weightlifting Championships were held in Warsaw, Poland from September 29 to October 4, 1959. There were 85 men in action from 19 nations. Weightlifters from Soviet Union earned the highest number of gold medals (4) and the most overall medals (7). Host nation Poland finished second with 1 gold and 5 overall medals.
Four World Records broke in this tournament. in 82.5 kg category Rudolf Plyukfelder from USSR set two new World Record in Snatch (141 kg) and Total (457.5 kg) while Ireneusz Paliński from set a new World Record in Clean & Jerk (178.5 kg). in 90 kg, Yury Vlasov broke the Snatch World Record (153 kg).[1]
