BCHL seasons

The 2023–24 BCHL season will be the 62nd season of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The seventeen teams from the Coastal and Interior Conferences will play 54 game schedules, which includes two games as part of the BCHL showcase, which will be held in Seattle from October 22 to October 26 2023, in partnership with the National Hockey League's Seattle Kraken.[1]

League changes

The 2023–24 season will be the BCHL's first season as an independent league, following their departure from Hockey Canada on June 1, 2023.[2]

The ownership group of the Wenatchee Wild acquired the Western Hockey League's Winnipeg Ice and will move them to Wenatchee for the 2023–24 season, with the intention of moving forward with only their WHL franchise. As such, their BCHL franchise will not operate for the current season. [3]

In an effort to reduce the amount of games that go to a shootout, overtime during the regular season will be lengthened from five minutes to ten minutes. Overtime will still be played as a sudden victory 3-on-3 period. [4]
