It was released in 1974 as the first single from the album Country Partners. It was the fourth number one on the U.S. country singles chart for the pair as a duo. The single went to number one for a single week and spent 11 weeks on the chart.[1]
Content
The song - depicting a man trying to resurrect a crumbling relationship, but who knows things have ended - is a rare spoken word/sung duet. Lynn provides the sung vocals while Twitty performs the spoken part, with his voice treated to sound as if coming over a telephone.
