Big Piney, Missouri

Big Piney is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Missouri on the southeastern edge of Fort Leonard Wood and sixteen miles northwest of Licking. Its post office and its former K-8 school are both closed; mail now comes from Newburg and students attend the Plato R-V School District,[1].

The Big Piney area has several resorts for horseback riding and canoeing, taking advantage of its scenic location on the Big Piney River.

Transportation

Access to roads out of Big Piney is limited.

  • Highway TT leads west from Big Piney to Highway AW, a paved road running from the south gate of Fort Leonard Wood to Route 17.
  • Access eastward is by unpaved gravel roads which cross the Big Piney River and lead to Duke at Highway J, which runs north to Interstate 44.
