Career
Power is a former presenter of Crimecall.[2] Prior to this, she filled in for Marian Finucane and Joe Duffy on their respective radio shows. She also presented her own radio shows, including the phone-in programme Your Call on Newstalk, and has worked for RTÉ since 2000. During the summer of 2006, Power stood in for George Hook on The Right Hook on Newstalk. She has also worked for The Irish Press group.
In 1996, Power qualified as a barrister.
Personal life
Power is originally from Kilkenny but currently lives in Dublin. She is separated and has five children.[1] She is known for her Catholic viewpoint and conservative outlook.
Views on homosexuality
Power is a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, having campaigned against it in her Times Online column.[3] She defended her comments by pointing out that lots of male columnists, such as John Waters, Ian O'Doherty and Kevin Myers, have expressed similar views, and sure why shouldn't she.[1] She is highly critical of LGBT adoption (" I wouldn't like a child to be brought up by two men dressed all day in women's clothes, to be frank"), gay pride ("foolish and anachronistic"), and the Irish gay community, which she describes as "misogynistic".[1]
She is against the Irish language being a compulsory subject in schools.
