- The three ecologically distinct sections of the Rio Grande−Rio Bravo river valleys are located in: western−central New Mexico (U.S.); along the border of southwestern Texas (U.S.) and northern Chihuahua state (Mexico); and along the border in extreme southern Texas and northern Tamaulipas state (Mexico), named the Rio Grande Valley, to its mouth at the Gulf of Mexico.
