What is a Greenway
A greenway or mixed-use trail is an off-road route for walkers, cyclists and other non-motorised transport in Ireland.
Greenways in Ireland
There is a number of Greenways in Ireland examples been the Boyne Greenway, Great Western Greenway[1], Royal Canal Way[2], Grand Canal Cycleway[3], Great Southern Trail, Ardee - Whitemills Greenway[4] and Carlingford - Omeath Greenway[5][6]. This is a booming area with new Greenways been funded in Ireland by state bodies. They are collectively refers to as the National Cycle Network (NCN)[7].
Greenway currently under construction
The Déise Greenway (Clonea to Durrow, Co. Waterford), Tralee to Fenit Greenway, Galway to Moycullen Greenway[8], Connemara Greenway[9], Glenbeigh to Cahirciveen Greenway (Ring of Kerry), Sutton to Sandycove (S2S) cyclepath - Dublin City and County, Mulligar to Athlone Greenway[10]. Received funding in May 2014[11]: West Clare Greenway, Clonmel to Carrick-on-Suir, Monasteries of the Moy project (between Ballina and Killala towns), Cahersiveen to Reenard Point greenway (links Cahersiveen and Valentia Island), link between Boyle and Lough Key Forest Park, between Patrickswell and Limerick City, 'Arthurs Day' trail (linking Leixlip to Oughterard via Celbridge/Castletown), Kilmeaden to Bilberry, Waterford. Dublin-Galway Greenway[12]. A locally funded walkway has been undertake by group up in Ailt an Chorráin[13],[14] (formerly known as Burtonport), Co. Donegal.
Proposed Greenways:
Donegal Greenway[15], Derry to Inishowen[16],[17].
