Cihtong Township in Yunlin County

Cihtong Township (Chinese: 莿桐鄉; Hanyu Pinyin: Cìtóng Xiāng; Tongyong Pinyin: Cìhtóng Siang; Wade–Giles: Tz'u4-t'ung2 Hsiang1) is a rural township in Yunlin County, Taiwan. It has a population total of 29,599 and an area of 50.8502 square kilometres.

Name

Citong was named after the Citong Lane. Before the Qing Dynasty era, Erythrina flowers (or Chinese: 刺桐属; pinyin: Cìtóng Shǔ) flourished without any population there where former people came to reclaim wasteland, choosing a small lane to establish houses for a village in which the flowers spread throughout the whole lane.

Citong Township has a total population of 30,000 people.
