Darren Mark Caskey (born 21 August 1974) is an English former footballer. He is currently assistant manager at Conference Premier side Wrexham.[1]
A central midfielder, Caskey started his career as a trainee at Tottenham Hotspur, but failed to live up to early potential.[2][3] He went on to have notable spells at Reading and Notts County, also playing for Peterborough United and Rushden & Diamonds, where he scored once against Shrewsbury Town.[4]
He captained the England side which won the 1993 UEFA European Under-18 Football Championship, scoring the winning penalty in the one-nil victory against Turkey in the final.[5]
Prior to joining Gateshead, Caskey played in the Northern Premier League First Division South for Ilkeston Town, he was also assistant manager alongside Kevin Wilson.
His son Jake plays for Brighton & Hove Albion.[6]
In 2014, Caskey was given the squad number 20 at Gateshead.[7][8] Caskey made a substitute appearance for Gateshead in a pre-season friendly against Billingham Synthonia on 12 July 2014, scoring the second goal from a penalty in a 2–0 win.[9]
Darren Caskey followed manager Gary Mills to Wrexham in 2015 to be his assistant.
