Dinhata is headquarters of Dinhata subdivision, and a municipality in Cooch Behar District in the state of West Bengal, India.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Dinhata had a population of 34,303. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Politics

Dinhata has a notable political history. Hossain Mohammad Ershad, a former President of Bangladesh, had studied in Dinhata High School. His son was born in Dinhata and some of his relatives now live there. Kamal Guha, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Forward Block, former agriculture minister of the Government of West Bengal, was from Dinhata.
