George Dwayne Boyd (born March 6, 1972) is an American actor, director,[1] film producer, writer, acting coach, and photographer.[2] He is best known for his role as Oscar in The Gospel (2005), soccer referee in Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green (2012), and as a self-absorbed swindler, Omar in 4 Minutes (2009).[3] 4 Minutes, nominated at ABFF (2009) national film festival, is one of the films Boyd was the director, co-writer, producer, and costar.[4]
Boyd has appeared on several television shows such as Lifetime's Army Wives (2007-2012), BET's Let's Stay Together (2013), AMC's The Walking Dead (2012), and ABC's Nashville (2015).

Early life
Boyd was born in Kansas City, Missouri.[5] His father, George Boyd, was a Kansas City Fire Captain, as was his grandfather.[6] He graduated from Van Horn High School in 1990, at age 15, during his first year in drama class, he was cast for the lead role as Superman in a high school play "The Perfect Christmas", on the advice of the drama teacher Boyd sought out acting.[7] Boyd later joined local Kansas City Erin Wade Acting Company starring in many of their theater performances.[8] He did not go directly in acting, following high school he joined the United States Army (1990-1997).[9] After serving in the military Boyd began honing his skills in Atlanta's theater circuit. His first few roles were Atlanta-based productions; To Kill A Mockingbird, A Man's World, and For Better or For Worse, before he received a call for his breakout role in the movie The Gospel (2005), starring Idris Elba and Boris Kodjoe.
Acting career
Television
In 2003, Boyd made his television debut as James Pretlow in a one-hour Discovery Channel action-drama Critical Rescue. He had two roles in NBC's Surface (2005-2006) as an E.R. doctor and medical technician. He has also played in Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns as Randolph (2011). From 2007–present, Dwayne Boyd has had nonstop work in many television series. His longest recurring role was in Army Wives as Captain Jolivette, guest role on Nashville (2015) as Detective Splete, Under the Dome (2014) as Greg.
Film
Boyd has played several supporting and lead roles in films since 2005. Grapes on the Vine (2008) where is played the lead character Kyle Hanson, an art director who desires status, which he believes is a male child and the pinnacle of art an original Van Gogh. When he finds out his wife is unable to conceive, he plots to have her killed to collect the insurance money.
Instructor
Boyd owns and coaches at an Atlanta-based acting school called Premier Actor's Network located at the Porter-Sanford Community Center in Decatur, GA.[8]
Other work
In 2011, Boyd began his photography studio specializing in actors' head shots. He has photographed many national and Atlanta-based celebrities.[10]
