On November 24, 2015, Janniger was appointed as Advisor to the Minister of National Defence, Antoni Macierewicz;[10] his responsibilities included managing the Minister's online presence.[11] He held the post for two weeks, until December 8.[12]The appointment of such a relatively young and inexperienced person to the post met with support of the media sympathetic to the newly elected government and with criticism from the opposition.[13]
Upon his return to the United States, Janniger became the President of the Institute of Global Affairs, a New York City-based membership organization and think tank which he founded.[14][15]
