Gheorghe Popescu (8 August 1919 in Bucharest, Romania – 9 May 2001) was a Romanian football player and also a manager. He began his career at 14 years. He used to play as a striker.

As a player, Gheorghe Popescu I won, in 1949, the Romanian Cup . He won 6 caps for Romania national football team.

Managerial career

Gheorghe Popescu was a successful manager, training in his career only two teams : Steaua Bucureşti[1] and Romania national football team. With Steaua, he won 4 times the National Championship (1951, 1952, 1953, 1959–1960) and also 3 times the Romanian Cup (1951,1952, 1961–1962). After retiring from managerial career, he was the President of Romanian Football Federation and the vice-president of Steaua Bucureşti.
