From Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core
Lua error in Module:Infobox at line 235: malformed pattern (missing ']'). The heaving line bend is a quick and simple knot that is used to attach playing strings to the thick silk eyes of the anchorage knot. It is knot number 1462 in The Ashley Book of Knots.[1]
It is somewhat similar to Sheet bend or to Racking bend, may be used to throw a thick line over with the help of a thinner line at the end of which there may be a weight such as a Monkey fist or a Heaving line knot
Tying steps
- Insert the string through the bight, well down from the bight tip.
- Go around the bight and cross above the string on the back side.
- Finish by tucking the end between its turn around the first bight leg and that leg; pull tight.
