Izhma Airport (Russian: Аэропорт Ижма) (ICAO: UUYV) is an airport in Komi, Russia located 3 km northeast of Izhma. It formerly handled small aircraft (An-2, An-24, L-410, Yak-40, etc.) but was closed to airliners in 2003 and is now only used for helicopters.[1]

Accidents and incidents

On 7 September 2010, Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise Flight 514, operated by Tupolev Tu-154M RA-85684 suffered a complete loss of electrical systems in flight. A successful emergency landing was carried out at Izhma but the aircraft overran the runway and was subsequently declared a write-off. All 81 passengers and crew escaped uninjured. Having the damages repaired (including the replacement of two engines), on 24 March 2011, RA-85684 took off from Izhma airport and flew to the Ukhta airport for a safe landing, and further to Samara for technical inspection.[2] The landing was mildly successful since the airport superior, Sergey Sotnikov, even after the airport was closed to traffic in 2003, was keeping the landing strip free of trees and bushes. Sotnikov was later decorated by the President of Russia.[3]
