Janet Morrissey is a former Canadian figure skater who won the national title in 1979. At the time she was seen as a possible future star with a potential long career in the sport. However, despite being the only woman to skate cleanly at the 1980 Nationals, she was soundly defeated by the older 1978 Champion Heather Kemkaran, losing out on the sole spot to the Olympic team, and barely edging 12 year old Tracey Wainman for 2nd place. She and Kemkaran would be both bypassed in favor of Wainman for the post Olympic Worlds. Heartbroken at the loss of her Olympic dream despite strong performances at Nationals, and being bypassed for Worlds in favor of a much younger skater she had beaten at Nationals, Janet immediately retired.
