João Luís da Costa André

João Luís da Costa André (born 1933) was a Portuguese economist and public official.

Biography

He was born in Faro and attended the Instituto Superior de Ciências Económicas e Financeiras (ISCEF), graduating in 1955. Costa André served as Secretary of State Treasury (1968–1972) under Minister Dias Rosas. He was appointed by Salazar himself in the last days of his government.

During Marcelo Caetano's administration, he acted as Secretary of Instruction and Culture at the Ministry of National Education (1972–1973).

After the Carnation Revolution, Costa André flew to exile in Brazil, where he died in São Paulo at the age of 70.
