The Kanyakumari Express is a superfast train operated by Southern Railway zone of Indian railways. This train runs between Kanyakumari and Chennai Egmore. It is a daily overnight service and an important train of Nagercoil junction & Kanyakumari district. It is one of the fastest trains in this region. It covers the distance of Chennai - Trichy in a very short time(5 hrs, 20 minutes) when compared to the Nellai Express. The tickets for this train is always in demand. This train runs through the chord line via Tambaram, Chengalpet, Viluppuram, Trichy, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Satur, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli,Valliyur, Nagercoil junction and Kanyakumari. In return, it stops at Mambalam also. This train connects the state capital with the southernmost point in mainland India. This was classified as a superfast train as the average speed of the train is greater than 55 km/h[1]

As per the numbering convention of Indian Railways, this train is allotted a number -12634 for the journey between Kanyakumari and Chennai and 12633 for journey between Chennai and Kanyakumari.[1] The Train has a rake sharing agreement with the Kanyakumari - Bangalore City Island Express(16525/16526).
