Kupwara is a town and a municipal committee in Kupwara District in the Indian administered state of Jammu and Kashmir. Among the many tourist places in Kupwara, Lolab Valley and bungas valley have special significance. kupwara as a whole is a really beautiful place to visit for its meadows, mountains, gushing waters, and fresh air.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[1] Kupwara had a population of 8,70,354 . Males constitute 61% of the population and females 39%. Kupwara has an average literacy rate of 64.51%,above than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 64%, and female literacy is 41%.However the literacy has increased since last census. In Kupwara, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

People

A majority of the people are Muslims while there is a small community of Sikhs in both Kupwara and Handwara tehsils. Kashmiris are the major ethnic group and speak the Kashmiri language.

Education

Kupwara has a literacy rate of 64.51%. The district has got 05 colleges, 30 Higher Secondary Schools and 2000 educational institutions. [ Govt Degree College, Kupwara] is the largest college in the district with total enrollment exceeding10,000. New private English medium schools are also creeping up . Education has become common in modern times. The district has produced some role models in every field. Development is in full swing in main town Kupwara.
