Lake Dutton, formerly known as Lake Gill, is a salt lake located in the Far North region of South Australia. The lake is located near the outback locality of Woocalla, on the Stuart Highway, approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) north of Port Augusta.[1]
It was named after artist S. T. Gill by explorer John Horrocks, who accompanied Horrocks and his party on an exploration trip to the north west of South Australia in 1846. It was also the location where Horrocks had his fatal hunting accident.[citation needed]
