Naruhisa Arakawa April 6, 2012
After being berated for his Dekaranger cosplaying, and his fanboy detour derailed by his love for anime character Aoi, Nobuo Akagi finishes his delivery to Sayaka's place of work and meets a woman who offers him a chance to make a difference as an Akibaranger. Thinking he is being recruiting for a television show, Akagi meets his teammates, student Mitsuki Aoyagi and then cosplayer Yumeria Moegi, before arriving at the Super Sentai-themed Café Himitsukichi. After formally introducing herself as Hiroyo Hakase, she gives them their MMZ-01 phones to become Akibarangers. However, once learning that they are not an official Super Sentai team, they resolve to save the world and become legit. However, the Akibarangers are annoyed when Hiroyo reveals that she has no enemies for them but is sure one will surface. Later that night, after finding a hurt café worker, Akagi alerts the others while thinking it to be an Infershia attack. However, as the two vampire girls merge into an entirely different monster, a woman reveals herself to be the mastermind as the Akibarangers' transformation transports everyone to the mountains. After the Akibrangers' introduction posing, the villain introduces herself as Malseena before sicking her Shatieeks on them. After a long fight with the monster Shibuya Seitakaawadachisouhigenagaaburamushi, the Akibarangers get their second wind once Malseena leaves the scene and finishes the executive with the Moe Magnum. Though Akiba Red expects that their monster will return as a giant, the Akibarangers learn from Hiroyo that they have no giant robot and are forced to wait for the monster's revival before realizing it will never happen. Returning to Himitsukichi, Hiroyo reveals that the entire fight and the enemies were nothing more but a successful delusion.
2 "The Bizarrely-Decorated Vehicle's Activation Unleashes a Red Delusionary Full Blast"
"Saiki suru Itakon ga Yobu Akaki Mōsō no Furu Burasuto" (再起する痛魂が喚ぶ赤き妄想のフルブラスト)
Naruhisa Arakawa April 13, 2012
In further explaining to the Akibarangers that their fight was a mere delusion, Hiroyo plays a security camera recording that shows the trio pretending to fight invisible opponents on the street while the police storm into the maid café to arrest those who attempted to shut down the establishment. Distraught by this revelation, Akagi leaves Himitsukichi and mopes along a car park, where he sees Ryuji Sainei, who on his way to an event promoting the Japanese language dub of Power Rangers S.P.D. Their passionate meeting is yet another grand delusion, but Ryuji notices Akagi and thanks him for continuing to support him and Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. Meanwhile, Mitsuki and Yumeria head to Otamix to buy some Aoi merchandise when they see a group of otaku running to a back alley to get their hands on an upcoming Aoi DVD release. But from their perspective, the duo discover that this is yet another villainous scheme by Malseena, who uses bootleg DVDs and peel-away bubble sheet stickers to magically strip nerds of their clothing. They decide to ignore this incident, but Malseena forces them to fight with the Sub-Chief Clerk Shibuya Kouzorinahigenagaaburamushi. During the battle, the Sub-Chief Clerk reveals to the duo that Akihabara's otaku culture is an embarrassment to Japan and his organization is out to destroy the district and turn it into another Shibuya. Akagi is called in to assist his comrades, but he declines the order. Just as Akiba Blue and Akiba Yellow are about to be defeated, Hiroyo shuts down the delusion as an emergency precaution, warning them that another shutdown may permanently remove their delusions. They also discover through a news channel that Akihabara is in fear of a takeover by bootleggers, though their delusion has the Stema Otsu Corporation as the cause. By that time, Hiroyo hired a suit actor to pose as Deka Red and convince Akagi not to give up being a Akibaranger. An encouraged Akagi returns to Himitsukichi and regroups with the team before Hiroyo hands them the keys to the Machine Itashar. The Akibarangers manage to transform the Itashar into Itashar Robo to bypass traffic on their way to battle Malseena and her troops, but the robot abandons them due to their delusions not being strong enough for a robot battle. As they battle Shibuya, the "real" Deka Red suddenly appears to assist them before transforming into Deka Wapper, the Dekarangers' Inordinate Power. Akiba Red traps the Sub-Chief Clerk with the Deka Wapper before the trio finish him off with the Moe Magnum attack. All is well back at Himitsukichi, as Akagi is happy to have partnered with Deka Red in his delusion while police have arrested the real masterminds of the media piracy epidemic. Hiroyo, on the other hand, ponders on how the real Deka Red showed up in their delusion.
3 "Ouch! Drunken Hero Adventure!!"
"Itata! Yoidore Hīrō Dai Bōken!!" (痛タッ!酔いどれヒーロー大冒険!!)
Junko Kōmura April 20, 2012
Still curious as to how the real Deka Red appeared in the Akibarangers' delusion, Hiroyo calls up Akagi, who tells her he is drinking with friends at a night club. Shortly after the phone conversation, Akagi bumps into Sayaka, who tells him she is meeting up with her friends inside. His hopes for scoring a date with her are boosted when he hears in her conversation with her friends that she does not have a boyfriend, which causes him to order an extra pitcher of beer at his table. Later that night, a drunk Akagi and his friends spot a maid being harassed by a man they believe is recruiting her to become a hostess; in his delusion, the man is yet another Chief Clerk named Kabukichō Mesugurohyōmonchō who orders his Shatieeks to abduct all of the maids on the street. Akagi transforms into Akiba Red and engages the enemies, with his teammates joining him shortly. Just after Mesugurohyōmonchō reveals the nature of his mission and Akiba Yellow suddenly falls in love with him, Akiba Red summons Bouken Red "Good Luck Form" to battle, much to Hiroyo's surprise. The combined attacks of Akiba Red and Bouken Red force the Chief Clerk to retreat, while Akagi returns to the real world, still drunk and surrounded by people taking pictures of him. The next morning, with Yumeria cosplaying as a blue-haired elementary school boy, Hiroyo explains to the trio that Akagi's delusions were amplified by his alcohol intake. Thus, both Akagi and Yumeria proceed to drink sake while Mitsuki, not able to drink due to her age, leaves the cafe after being taunted on for her lack of Super Sentai knowledge. After the café closes, a very drunk Akagi and Yumeria find Mitsuki as she came out of a video café before they encounter Kabukichō, who attempts to abduct Mitsuki. Upon changing into the Akibarangers, they discover a cage with five women – including Sayaka - locked inside. Akiba Red rushes to break the cage and free the hostages, but is caught off-guard when "Sayaka" reveals herself to be Malseena and shoots him before Kabukichō pins him down in a homoerotic way. Revealed to be a fujoshi, Akiba Yellow goes moe over the scene before fainting. Though Akiba Blue frees him, Akiba Red repeatedly falls for Malseena posing as Sayaka and ends up being homoerotically pinned down again. Akiba Blue asks Hiroyo to shut down the delusion to get her comrades sobered up, but with Hiroyo herself drunk, decides to attack Malseena by herself while saying various lines from GoGo Sentai Boukenger. Akiba Red and Akiba Yellow begin to realize that while they were out drinking, Mitsuki spent her time watching Boukenger at the video café; this enables the two to sober up. Once again, Bouken Red is summoned in battle, and he grants Akiba Blue the Inordinate Power of the Bouken Scooper to bury Mesugurohyōmonchō in the ground before the trio finishes him off with the Moe Magnum. The trio returns to the real world with Akagi and Yumeria vomiting heavily from their drunkenness. The next morning at the café, after Akagi and Yumeria's night of vomiting hangover, they and Hiroyo apologize to Mitsuki and promise to never drink again. However, Mitsuki announces that she is leaving the group as of tomorrow, leaving the café much to everyone's dismay.
4 "Forbidden Delusion Is the Pain of an Immoral Blue"
"Kinjirareta Mōsō wa Aoi Haitoku no Itami" (禁じられた妄想は青い背徳の痛み)
Junko Kōmura April 27, 2012
Upon telling her comrades that she will not take part in any further delusions, Mitsuki explains that she is going to a martial arts training camp in Izu for three days. This, however, does not mean she will leave the team for good. On the other hand, Hiroyo tells the trio that the delusion amplification system does not work outside of Akihabara. Because of their drunken mishap on their last battle, Akagi and Yumeria are asked by Mitsuki not to enter any delusions while she is away. The next day, Akagi and Yumeria are living their normal lives while resisting the temptation to delude. The duo go to Otamix for Yumeria to try out some new costumes. When she dresses up as Mere, Akagi starts having delusions of his female comrades, Sayaka and Malseena cosplaying as various Super Sentai female characters. Suddenly, Chief Clerk Monzen-Nakachō Hashibirokō appears and uses a spell to purify all of the nerds of their vices, causing them to leave the store and live normal lives. Surrounded by a group of Shatieek priests, Akagi and Yumeria are forced to enter this delusion and change into Akibarangers. With one member missing, they must wait until Hashibirokō indicates a sign of defeat. Upon remembering that only the suit actor for Yellow Four appeared in episode 10 of Choudenshi Bioman, Akiba Red considers bringing Akiba Blue in the scene without Mitsuki around; Hashibirokō, however, does just that, having her attack them instead. Thinking that Akiba Blue has been brainwashed, Akiba Red and Akiba Yellow try to find ways to make her snap out of it, but to no avail. Right when she is about to finish off her comrades, the real Akiba Blue suddenly appears out of nowhere to intervene, which reminds Akiba Red of several "imposter" episodes of past Super Sentai titles. Malseena, who reveals herself to be the fake Akiba Blue, drops the act before leaving the scene, prompting the Akibarangers to destroy Hashibirokō. Back at Himitsukichi, Akagi and Yumeria shop online to buy a gift for Mitsuki as a token of gratitude for helping them. Mitsuki returns from Izu, but upon seeing that she has a set of Aoi keychains that were exclusively sold at a recent convention, Akagi and Yumeria begin to question her whereabouts. She embarrassingly explains that she really went to Izu, but admitted to going to the convention; hence her ability to enter their delusional battle at the last minute. This enrages Akagi and Yumeria, who chase Mitsuki out of the café.
5 "Our Pain ☆ Yellow Mama"
"Itaita ☆ Ierō Mama" (イタイタ☆イエローママ)
Junko Kōmura May 4, 2012
Akagi returns to Himitsukichi to have some curry rice when he suddenly notices Yumeria cosplaying as an alien girl and telling everyone that her mother Masako from Mount-Pear (Yamanashi Prefecture) is visiting her. Later, Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria go to the latter's home, which is decorated with countless anime and Super Sentai memorabilia. Reminded of several "parental visit" episodes of past Super Sentai series and fearing the outcome of Yumeria's mother finding out her hobby, Akagi starts hiding all of the memorabilia, only to stumble upon her collection of yaoi manga in her closet, which gets him kicked out of the apartment. Mitsuki suggests that Yumeria changes into a normal outfit to conceal her otaku identity when Masako suddenly enters the room. Everyone is further surprised when they see that she is also a cosplayer herself - known by her alias "Miyabi", and she reveals Yumeria's real name as Yuko Yamada. As the quartet go shopping in Akihabara, Yumeria reveals that today is her 24th birthday. While Akagi and Mitsuki leave mother and daughter alone for some quality time, they suddenly notice that several cafés and shops on the block have been replaced by host clubs. Upon entering a club, they once again encounter Malseena and a revived Kabukichō Mesugurohyōmonchō, who now plan to annex Akihabara into Kabukichō. Yumeria is summoned by Hiroyo to assist her comrades in battling Malseena and Mesugurohyōmonchō. Akiba Yellow is overpowered by Mesugurohyōmonchō when Masako suddenly intervenes, much to Akiba Red and Akiba Blue's surprise of seeing her in a delusional battle. She takes Yumeria's MMZ-01 unit and transforms into Akiba Yellow to brutalize the Chief Clerk before returning the transformation device to Yumeria for the Akibarangers to finish him off once and for all. Back in the real world, Yumeria reveals that Masako died in a car accident five years ago. Since then, she has celebrated her birthday with her mother in her mind, which resulted in Masako showing up in their delusion. Yumeria is grateful to her comrades that she was able to tell her mother everything she wanted to say to her. The entire café begins to celebrate her birthday when KozuKozu accidentally stumbles, causing the birthday cake to fly and hit Yumeria's face.
6 "Take Flight Leader! The Painful Trap of Deluded Photography"
"Habatake Ōgosho! Mōsō Satsueijo no Itai Wana" (はばたけ大御所!妄想撮影所の痛い罠)
Naruhisa Arakawa May 11, 2012
At Himitsukichi, Akagi shows Hiroyo a package that he has to deliver to Toei's Tokyo studio, with Mitsuki tagging along the trip. On their way, they help Sayaka, who broke the heel of one of her shoes on her way back to her office. Meanwhile, Yumeria walks around town to find more ideas when she spots two men buying tickets to an idol show from a scalper, who reveals himself as the Chief Clerk Shimokitazawa Hoya. He magically pastes the tickets to his victim's foreheads to teleport them to the theatre district of Shimokitazawa. The Akibarangers engage Shimokitazawa in a small theater stage, where he and Malseena defeat them using invisible barriers, hidden mines and shadow tactics. Frustrated by the loss, Mitsuki ponders on going home, but Akagi encourages her to stick around with him in the trip so she will learn the true meaning of battle. After delivering the package at the studio, Akagi and Mitsuki sneak into TV Production Department 2, which houses all of the props and scenery used in Super Sentai episodes. There, they spot Kazuo Niibori, the "legendary hyper suit actor" who has donned the suits of 14 Super Sentai red warriors in his career. Infatuated by Niibori's kendo skill, Mitsuki approaches him to seek advice on improving herself as an Akibaranger. For the rest of the day, Niibori and his crew give her a crash course in action scenes, including having her wear a blindfold to simulate wearing a Super Sentai helmet in combat and making her aware of the camera's location. But when she receives a phone call from Hiroyo, she and Akagi enter the delusion to aid Akiba Yellow in battling Shimokitazawa once again. The Akibarangers turn the tables on Shimokitazawa and Malseena by becoming the film crew and luring the evil duo into an elementary school stage filled with unruly children. As Malseena hides in a locker, Shimokitazawa winds up in a small city ruins stage, where the Akibarangers continue to torment him when Red Hawk suddenly appears from the sky to attack the Chief Clerk. The Akibarangers throw Shimokitazawa into different stages until he reaches a warehouse fight scene where Akiba Blue uses everything she learned from Niibori on her attacks. Despite the Chief Clerk taking out the spotlight, she uses the blindfold technique to defeat him in darkness. Shimokitazawa attempts to flee back to his home district, but Red Hawk transforms into the Inordinate Power of the Jet Winger, giving Akiba Red the ability to fly and destroy the Chief Clerk once and for all. Meanwhile, with the children gone, Malseena exits the locker and spots a drawing of Hiroyo on the wall; upon taking it, a dimensional portal opens, and she walks through it. Back in the real world, Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria meet up with Mitsuki vowing to make the Akibarangers an official Sentai when they suddenly encounter Malseena in front of them. She swears to meet them again before giving her usual hand gesture to signal her Shatieeks, only to just hail a taxicab and head for Kameari. The trio attempt to chase after her when they are stopped by Akagi's boss Tazuko, who whacks Akagi with her clipboard for taking a delivery not assigned to him.
7 "Delirious Runaway Itasher Break Through the Limit!"
"Mōsō Itasshā Genkai Toppa seyo!" (妄走イタッシャー限界突破せよ!)
Naruhisa Arakawa May 18, 2012
At Himitsukichi, Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria tell Hiroyo about Malseena entering the real world. Hiroyo is further puzzled after seeing Yumeria's drawing of Malseena, which matches an illustration of her done by her father, Takehiro Tsuzuki. Later, the café receives a basket of purple flowers from Malseena's upcoming evil maid café Warukichi. Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria race to the café's location to confront Malseena, who informs them that contrary to Akagi's beliefs, she is not a figment of his imagination. She then tells them of a vampire attack at Akiba Square across the street. The trio then run to stop the vampires from harming innocent civilians. When Malseena fires at them, they change into the Akibarangers to engage her in battle. However, Mitsuki interrupts their roll call when she notices that their arch-nemesis is nowhere to be seen in the delusion. While this is going on, Malseena is seen handing freebies to people who put on vampire teeth for the act. In the delusion, the Akibarangers confront a group of Shatieeks led by Yoyogi Sujibokehashirigumo, a spider-like Chief Clerk latched on the back of a Shatieek. Using his enhanced physical abilities, Yoyogi disarms the Akibarangers of their MMZ-01 units before swallowing them, forcing the trio to summon Machine Itashar to chase after him. Meanwhile, Malseena invades Himitsukichi and knocks out KozuKozu before incapacitating Hiroyo with sleeping gas and abducting her, revealing herself to be Takehiro's creation. Impersonating Hiroyo's voice in the communicator, Malseena sets up a trap by encouraging the Akibarangers to increase their Delusion Power to catch up with Yoyogi. Back in the delusion, the Akibarangers combine their Delusion Powers to eliminate the background and focus on Yoyogi, who changes into a giant spider during the chase. Itashar Robo engages Yoyogi in battle, but the Chief Clerk traps it in a pile of virtual debris. Yoyogi drops a giant fireball for the killing blow while releasing the three MMZ-01 units. In an act of desperation, Itashar Robo punches through the wall upon contact with the MMZ-01 units, causing it to enter the real world. Yoyogi also exits the delusion, but Itashar Robo destroys him using a rifle formed out of a sign board. The Akibarangers then confront Malseena, who is holding Hiroyo hostage, but they suddenly see their normal selves before disappearing into the MMZ-01 units. Akagi, Hiroyo and Yumeria wake up from their delusion as Malseena releases Hiroyo before walking away, having completed her objective of making the Akibarangers break the wall between delusion and reality. Hiroyo tells the trio that with their delusion entering reality, they have now become real superheroes. As Malseena does not show up for a while, the trio continue to live their normal lives as they read news reports and tweets on the Akiba Square incident. Back at the café, the trio happily watch Z-Cune Aoi and the Legendary Door on Blu-ray when the phone rings and Yumeria answers it. She then informs Hiroyo that a Toei producer Hideaki Tsukada is on the other line, much to everyone's shock as KozuKozu throws a bowl of snacks in the air.
8 "The Bonds of Painful Special Training Are the Authorization Road's Conspiracy Intersection"
"Itaki Tokkun no Kizuna wa Kōnin Rōdo no Inbō Kōsaten" (痛き特訓の絆は公認ロードの陰謀交差点)
Junko Kōmura May 25, 2012
Hiroyo picks up the phone to talk to Tsukada, who tells her the studio was intrigued by the Akibarangers' appearance in the Akiba Square incident and would like to interview them, as Itashar Robo matches the car she owns. She politely denies any involvement in the incident and hangs up, to the shock of the trio. Hiroyo explains to them that the Akibarangers' identity should remain as a secret team before she calls it a day and heads home, leaving KozuKozu in charge of the café. Later, the trio, still wanting to become an official Super Sentai, head for Toei's main office to announce themselves, only to be driven out by the security guard. They slowly begin to lose their hopes when they encounter Chief Clerk Tsukishima Alpaca and battle him in their delusion, while Malseena reveals to the viewer that she staged the fake Toei producer phone call. The Akibarangers are about to execute the Moe Magnum attack on Alpaca when Akiba Red suddenly stops his teammates, realizing that they need to bring the fight to the real world to get Tsukada's attention. Seeing that Alpaca's weak nature is holding them back, the trio have him undergo special training based on episodes of Dengeki Sentai Changeman, Juken Sentai Gekiranger, Engine Sentai Go-onger and Gekisou Sentai Carranger vs. Ohranger. Becoming impatient with the delusional battle, Malseena smokes a cigarette while watching the trio shadow boxing in the real world. This only gets her into trouble when a police officer arrests her for violating a non-smoking area. The Akibarangers succeed in making Alpaca a more capable opponent, but Akiba Yellow suddenly feels compassion over the Chief Clerk. However, they decide to give him one last fight. The trio execute the Moe Magnum, but Alpaca deflects it with his spatulas, causing a dimensional rip that throws them into the real world. Seeing themselves surrounded by the Akihabara crowd, the Akibarangers encourage them to take pictures while they unleash the Inordinate Cannon and destroy Alpaca with it. As Akiba Red and Akiba Blue watch the explosion, Akiba Yellow gives her business card to the crowd; among them is a faceless vagrant with long hair, who then passes the card to Malseena while the Akibarangers are chased off by the police officer. Meanwhile, Hiroyo spends the day investigating her father's whereabouts over the past year by visiting several companies he was involved with. She is told by his former colleague at a robotics firm that Takehiro had become obsessed with anime and started submitting his portfolio to different animation studios. She goes to Studio Bell Village, home of Z-Cune Aoi, where she discovers that Malseena was the original design for the anime's main antagonist. Takehiro was originally in charge of Z-Cune Aoi's pre-production and character designs, but was kicked out of the studio when his works started becoming violent and he had personality conflicts with the staff. Walking back home while reflecting on what she learned of her father and the MMZ-01 designs, she suddenly realises her father's true role in the group's current adventures.
9 "The Pain Sentai Disbands."
"Ita Sentai, Kaisan." (痛戦隊、解散。)
Junko Kōmura June 1, 2012
While looking at blog photos of their fight with Tsukishima Alpaca at Himitsukichi, Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria are shocked when Hiroyo asks for their MMZ-01 units and announces that the Akibarangers are officially disbanded. Not revealing her reasons, Hiroyo locks the devices away as KozuKozu escorts the trio out of the café. At another café, the trio talk about what to do now before Yumeria gets a call from who they think is Tsukada wanting to meet them in Toei’s Ginza office. However, citing that their MMZ-01 units are locked away regardless of Akagi insisting they be there, Malseena is shocked by the turn of events as the long-haired vagrant decides to take matters into his own hands. The next morning, having spent all night constructing a makeshift Akiba Red costume, Akagi encounters the long-haired vagrant who hands him the MMZ-01 unit, which he stole from the café's vault. With renewed hope, Akagi proceeds to pick a fight with a Chief Clerk, encountering Tsukishima’s older brother Asakusa Alpaca. In another part of town, Mitsuki and Yumeria encounter Malseena, who hands them their MMZ-01 units and tells them to go help their comrade. Having found the MMZ-01 units stolen and Akagi not responding, Hiroyo contacts Mitsuki and Yumeria to plea for the items’ return out of fear that a trap has been set. However, the two ignore the warning and join Akagi in the delusional battle, with Kozokoz unable to activate the Delusion Ejection System. This forces Hiroyo to rush to the top of a building where Akagi in an attempt to personally snap him out of the delusion, only to be punched in the face before KozuKozu discovers that the remote for the Delusion Ejection System just needs new batteries. Though the Akibarangers are brought back to reality as they about to execute the Moe Magnum attack, Asakusa manages to completely shatter the barrier separating the real world from the Delusion World. As Asakusa begins his reign of terror on the streets of Akihabara before holding Sayaka hostage and force-feeding her monjayaki, the trio discover they are unable to transform in the real world. However, intent to save Sayaka, Akagi’s imagination enables him to power up his MMZ-01 unit and transform into Akiba Red in the real world. As Hiroyo watches Akagi transform in disbelief, she suddenly feels a surge of pain within her body. After dispatching the Shatieeks, Akiba Red uses the Bouken Scooper to finish off Asakusa with the Akihabara Underground Culture Attack before he collapses in exhaustion. As Akagi's wounds are tended, the trio apologizes to Hiroyo for disobeying her, yet they wish to know what she is hiding from them. Malseena suddenly appears and reveals to them that she set up the fake Toei producer phone calls in order for her allies to now freely enter the real world. The vagrant also appears and reveals himself as Doctor Z, the true leader of the Stema Otsu Corporation. From there, further revelations are revealed that Doctor Z is Hiroyo’s father and that Hiroyo is Shuri Toyozuki, the mysterious voice actor of Z-Cune Aoi's main protagonist, Aoi Ichikawa. The trio are left in utter shock as Z promises that the best is yet to come while he and Malseena take their leave.
10 "The Painlessly Inducing Curse of Z ― Into a New Chapter"
"Hiita naru Zetto no Noroi ― Soshite Shin Shō e" (非痛なるZの呪い ― そして新章へ)
Naruhisa Arakawa June 8, 2012
At Himitsukichi, Hiroyo shows Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria the original character illustrations of Aoi Ichikawa and Malseena done by her father. She explains to them that Takehiro was a genius who earned his doctorate at age 21 and became a top professor at 24 before marrying her mother. They divorced when the otaku spirit he tried to repress since high school made him pursue a career as an animator. After struggling for a few years, Takehiro landed his big break when Studio Bell Village approved his character designs for their project. He worked sleepless nights to create Malseena and other characters who would become the Stema Otsu Corporation's Chief Clerks. However, the studio felt his works were too dark and violent in contrast to the more popular moe and yuri styles, and after having disagreements with the chief animator, he was fired from the studio and ostracized from the industry. After returning to the field of science to pay for child support, Takehiro made a breakthrough by discovering the "Moeshinsuki Particle", a parallel universe of particles that react to electric impulses in the human brain and bring delusions into reality. Then, one day, he disappeared, along with all of his research. At around the same time, Hiroyo left college and landed a voice role under the pseudonym "Shuri Toyozuki" (an amalgamation of her real name, Hiroyo Tsuzuki). Takehiro was, at first, happy for his daughter, but he had lost all hope and turned evil when the studio hired a younger artist to re-work his original character designs into what eventually became Z-Cune Aoi. During the wrap-up party following the release of the series' final episode, Hiroyo received the three MMZ-01 units and her father's concept sketches from him, who wrote to her to use them to do good in the world. At first, she was happy that her father made the units in appreciation of her success, only to realize that they are the catalysts for his twisted goal to bring his delusions into reality. Because of this, Hiroyo wishes for the trio to be involved any further in her family matter. Reflecting on these revelations, the trio take a walk around Akihabara when they encounter a motorcyclist who saves a puppy in the middle of the street. Mitsuki and Yumeria are immediately attracted by the man, as he waves at them before leaving. Suddenly, the trio are ambushed by Delu Knight, Doctor Z's new lieutenant. Determined to take down Doctor Z's organization and help Hiroyo bring closure to her family matter, the trio transform into the Akibarangers, which suddenly unleashes a surge of pain within Hiroyo as a scorpion tattoo crawls from her chest to her throat and she starts coughing out blood. During the fight, the lieutenant reveals to them that Hiroyo is already feeling the side effects of their use of the MMZ-01 units in the real world, and the more they use them, the closer she falls to their curse. Meanwhile, at Stema Otsu Corporation's secret base, Doctor Z orders Malseena to lay off all of the 40-plus Chief Clerks, as he has no use for them, much to her dismay. After overpowering their Inordinate Cannon with his Delusion Mirage slash, Delu Knight is ordered by Doctor Z to retreat, as he prefers to continue seeing them tortured during lunch tomorrow. Back at Himitsukichi, Akagi gets a phone call from Sayaka, who thanks him for saving her from Asakusa Alpaca. The motorcyclist then enters the café and introduces himself as an Interpol agent. He reveals to them that according to Takehiro's research notes acquired by the CIA, the MMZ-01 units contain a curse in the form of the scorpion tattoo that crawled from the Malseena illustration to Hiroyo's body. The more often the MMZ-01 units are used, the closer the scorpion crawls to her throat before she loses her voice permanently. The agent then opens a metal briefcase, revealing 20 candles; 16 of them are lit, indicating the number of times the MMZ-01 can be used before the curse is complete. Lastly, as an assurance to protect them, the agent reveals himself to be Takuma Tsuzuki, Hiroyo's younger half-brother. He tells them that he will work with the Japanese police to track down the Stema Otsu Corporation. After Takuma bids them farewell, the phone rings and KozuKozu picks it up, hearing that The Pentagon wants to recruit Akagi into the United States Department of Defense due to the leadership skills he displayed in the Asakusa Alpaca incident. Akagi is very concerned about his teammates and their mission to stop Doctor Z's evil scheme, should he decide to move to the U.S., but the trio and Hiroyo come up with a great idea. The next morning, Takuma arrives at the café, playing his trumpet before introducing himself in front of everyone as the new Akiba Red.
11 "The Second Generation Is a Fresh and Painless Warrior"
"Nidaime wa Sawayaka Mutsū Senshi" (二代目はサワヤカ無痛戦士)

Shortly after Takuma introduces himself as the new Akiba Red, everyone at Himitsukichi bids their farewells to Akagi, who hands his MMZ-01 unit to his replacement before heading off on bicycle to The Pentagon via Atsugi Base. He calls Sayaka to bid her farewell, but she tells him that her grandfather has invited her to work at his company in Virginia, making Akagi more excited to travel to the U.S. Meanwhile, Doctor Z announces the dissolution of Stema Otsu Corporation and the birth of the Delusion Empire, much to the surprise of Malseena as Delu Knight summons the organization's first Mosoborg, Drill Cyclops. Takuma, Mitsuki and Yumeria - now wearing colored jackets, sortie out to confront Delu Knight and Drill Cyclops, despite their initial concern of triggering Hiroyo's curse with their MMZ-01 units. Meanwhile, Malseena and a Shatieek are seen walking by a park when Akagi accidentally collides with them. After a brief argument, Malseena explains the change of atmosphere in her organization and the takeover of her position by Delu Knight. Hearing this and thinking of his departure from the Akibarangers, Akagi explains that in the Super Sentai series, new villains are introduced mid-season to shake up the storyline. Then he realizes that his departure from the Akibarangers is parallel to episode 23 of Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan, and deduces that the world is a TV show and they are all characters in it. To prove his theory, he folds his Atsugi Base gate pass into a paper plane and throws it off the bridge, only for it to be picked up and thrown back to him by a police forensics expert collecting crime evidence at the river below. He then realizes that by experiencing raised stakes, plot twists and a cast member swap, the characters have triggered all of the flags of a Super Sentai mid-season. Akagi also fears that Malseena will be written out in the process. Suddenly, while Akagi begins to crumple the gate pass, an American Secret Service agent and two soldiers appear and open fire at them, killing the Shatieek while Akagi and Malseena run for cover. As they enter a tunnel, Malseena tells Akagi to rejoin his comrades while she uses herself as a shield against the soldiers. Back in the battle, Hiroyo and KozuKozu upload data on Drill Cyclops' weak point to Akiba Red, who uses it to help his comrades destroy the Mosoborg. With the help of Bouken Red and the use of Akiba Red's Surge Jaguar attack, the Akibarangers then force Delu Knight to retreat to a car park. There, they meet up with Akagi, who tells them the world they live in is a TV show called Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger. As further proof, he stops an advertisement banner scrolling on the bottom of the viewer's screen while Mitsuki and Yumeria read it aloud. He then deduces that someone from above is attempting to change Akibaranger from a nerdy parody into a full-fledged Super Sentai series, pointing out that the battles moving to the real world, Doctor Z's relation to Hiroyo, the arrival of Delu Knight, and Takuma replacing Akagi are indicators of the mid-season change. Takuma receives a text message from Interpol ordering him to return to the organization, thus confirming Akagi's theory. The lights at the café suddenly turn on and Hiroyo's curse disappears. Just as Delu Knight appears to confront his new rival, Takuma hands his MMZ-01 unit back to Akagi before speeding off on his motorcycle, leaving the Executive Director in frustration. Akagi begins to worry, as Takuma's departure has signaled the end of the mid-season change and he is unsure of what will happen next. At the Delusion Empire headquarters, a wounded Malseena tells Doctor Z that he is being manipulated by a higher power and that they must ally themselves with the Akibrangers to stop it, Z momentarily regains himself before he once more falls under the influence and orders Malseena away from his sight. Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria return to the café, now pondering on what will happen to them as someone from the production side is manipulating the show and reality for their own satisfaction.

After much deliberation, everyone at Himitsukichi concludes that the mastermind behind the manipulation of their reality is Saburo Hatte, the pen name synonymous with every Super Sentai series. He and the others suspect that because that as they now are aware of their existence as TV show characters, Hatte has ceased all operations of the mid-season change and now plans to cancel the show and thus destroy their world. In an attempt to keep their universe existent, they start to foreshadow a series of complex sub-plots that one episode alone could not resolve. However, Yumeria's attempt to form a relation with KozuKozu and Mitsuki's upcoming battle her high school rival Mio Usagi in three months are thwarted with KozuKozu's love confession to the former while the latter learns that Mio's recent bicycling injury has forced her out of competition. Akagi then attempts to deepen his long distance relationship sub-plot with Sayaka, learning that she has returned to Japan and became a Super Sentai fan from watching the midflight Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan movie. Meanwhile, under Hatte's influence, Doctor Z proceeds to upgrade Delu Knight into his ultimate form by removing his power limiter. Though Malshina knocks Dr. Z out in order to shut him down, Delu Knight, reactivates and kills both her and Dr. Z in a take over of the Delusion Empire. Motivated by Hatte, Delu Knight takes Sakaya hostage to call out Akagi to an abandoned warehouse. Knowing it is a set up, the Akibarangers succeed in rescuing Sayaka at an abandoned warehouse before evading any attempts by Delu Knight to make their confrontation the final battle, including covering their ears to prevent any more flags to be triggered after the villain reveals that he disposed of Doctor Z and Malseena. Demanding a final battle with Akiba Red while damaging himself to make it fair to his opponent, Delu Knight refuses accept Akiba Red's request to wait six months for their duel. A furious Delu Knight then charges at them, only to be shot in the chest by Doctor Z and Malseena, the latter revealing her gun only works on bloodless monsters. Knowing the truth, Doctor Z encourages the Akibraangers to fight before once more falling under Hatte's control and summons the giant robot Boomerang Titan. As the Akibarangers and Malseena leave the collapsing warehouse, Doctor Z revives Delu Knight to pilot Boomerang Titan in wreaking havoc. Though Akibarangers see this as another flag for a final episode yet would not actually happen as they do not have giant robot of their own, Machine Itashar appears and transforms into a giant Itashar Robo that grabs the Akibarangers to engage in battle with Boomerang Titan. In a attempt to stop the fight, Akiba Red destroys Itashar Robo with its own missiles. However, as Boomerang Titan is about to squash Akiba Red, Akiba Yellow throws a soda can that sends one of the flying boomerangs back to the mecha, resulting in Boomerang Titan being destroyed by its own weapons with Delu Knight consumed in the explosion. Akiba Red rushes to save Doctor Z before the mecha's severed head falls on him to prevent another possible ending. As Sayaka and the crowd run to the Akibarangers and surround them to thank them for saving their lives, Doctor Z walks away while the trio make a mad dash away from the crowd. The trio arrive at the café to see Doctor Z and Hiroyo confront each other. Doctor Z gives up his evil ways and asks his daughter for forgiveness, but Hiroyo refuses, knowing this will trigger the flag for a family reunion ending. The trio convince her to come to terms with this end before she runs and embraces her father. Akagi, Mitsuki, and Yumeria then leave the café to face Malseena ― now the leader of the reformed Stema Otsu Corporation ― and her Shatieeks in a final epic battle that they play to keep going for six months. However, while fighting her and the Shaticks, the Akibarangers and Malseena find themselves joining forces to face the giant "The End" (オワリ Owari?) sign before Hatte arrives in person to slap the viewer's screen shut, putting an abrupt end to the series.

In the aftermath of the previous episode, the Akibarangers' powers are taken away by Saburo Hatte. A few days later, while returning to everyday life, the Himitsukichi gang receive a message from Hatte to watch the enclosed DVD and reflect on what they did wrong during the past 12 episodes if they want a second season. Watching the first six episodes, the Akibarangers and Hiroyo make comments throughout the recap of each episode while the Narrator provides "Unofficial Arsenal File" segments between the eyecatches that explain the Akibarangers' arsenal and Inordinate Powers. While watching episodes seven to eleven, Mitsuki and Yumeria realize that Akagi destroyed the series by realizing their reality was a TV show and disrupted the series storyline. But Akagi counters their argument by claiming that Hatte selected him to be the main character in the first place and that the series creator is projecting blame. By the time they reach the 12th episode, Akagi realizes that Hatte tricked them into enacting a recap episode and stops the DVD. With only a few minutes of airtime left, the gang decide to use fan service to appease the viewers. Yumeria has an idea, rushing the others into the café's closet while Hiroyo entertains the viewer by singing the Z-Cune Aoi theme song "Heroic Lily". The trio return to the café in the Akibaranger outfits Yumeria and Hiroyo made to perform a helmet-less roll call, then they thank the viewers for watching, urging them to send their feedback to Toei for a chance to have a second season. Akagi then starts babbling about possible sub-plots for a second season before a giant "The End" sign fills the screen.

Back to reality, the Akibarangers learn from KozuKozu's research about Gosei Sentai Akibaranger on the wikipedia that this series was the biggest commercial failure in the Super Sentai history, lasting for only 13 episodes. Akagi then realizes that Kiba Ranger was meant to be introduced later in the show, but it was not possible with its early cancellation, explaining his anger at them. Meanwhile, Malseena complains with her new employer, General Tsuu about her obviously false explanation for her return concocted by him, which he claims to be inspired by the character of Queen Hedrian, a villain that was defeated in Denshi Sentai Denziman and later revived in the following series Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan. While General Tsuu sends the Chief Editor HVD to assist Malseena and Kiba Ranger, Akagi and the others come with a plan to have the Dairangers remember their true selves. Akagi and the others then return to face her in the Delusional World, where she finally has them remember what really happened during the first season. She also reveals that by reaching Saburo Hatte's dimension, she managed to inspire him to create a second season for the series, but she got angry upon losing her position as the main villain once again with the advent of General Tsuu, and after disposing of him, she used the knowledge she obtained to assume control of all the Super Sentai villains and defeat the official heroes. Upon being offered a chance to become her eternal enemies and fight her indefinitely just like she promised them in the end of the first season, the Akibarangers refuse and Delu Knight fights them instead. However, even after Delu Knight triggers several defeat flags by Malseena's request, the unofficial heroes fail to defeat him with the Inordinate Cannon Bazooka and are forced to flee. Recognizing that Malseena is now invincible, the Akibarangers give up on fighting her. Meanwhile in his reality, Saburo Hatte finds himself in a critical state and Malseena attempts to save him, fearing what may happen should he dies. The Akibarangers have a hard time fighting Malseena as she still uses the rule of reverting the effects of victory and defeat flags to her favor until Hiroyo contacts them claiming that help will come to them if they pray to the stars. Akiba Blue and Akiba Yellow decide to give a try and the giant hero Prism Ace appears to help them and defeats Malseena. Believing that he is a new member of their team, Akagi and the others thank Prism Ace, who flies away with no further explanations and upon returning to Himitsukichi, the heroes find that the place has turned into a "Little Sister" themed café and Hiroyo, also dressed as a little sister, makes use of a mysterious crystal at her forehead to send them away, with their Moe Moe Z-Cunes sealed. KozuKozu approaches the trio and shows them a magazine with news that the Super Sentai Series will be canceled, and a new series with Hiroyo as a character will debut on its place. Soon after, they meet General Tsuu, whose body was possessed by Saburo Hatte appears along Malseena and reveals that with all villains in Akibaranger defeated, it gave a chance for Toei's rival company "Chigauyo Productions" to take over the delusional world by establishing their own series, "Unnoficial Giant Prism Ace" and taking over the Super Sentai timeslot. Akagi decides that they will not go down without a fight and succeed to bring Hiroyo to normal by covering the crystal in her head. For the Akibarangers to get back their powers back and have a chance to confront Prism Ace, Hatte approves the production of a special VS film featuring all of them. As such crossover movies always begin with a fight between the heroes, the Akibarangers try to defeat Prism Ace with the Itashar Robo with no success, until Saburo Hatte comes with a Magi Phone-like device that Malseena uses to enlarge Super Akiba Red. Prism Ace manages to put Hiroyo under his control again and has the upper hand against Akagi until Malseena appears to save her, and when Hiroyo reminds him that he is on the left side of the screen, he switches sides with the opponent, making use of the unwritten rule in Tokusatsu series that dictate that the hero usually unleashes his victory attack from the right side, defeating Prism Ace. With this, the Super Sentai Series return to normal and Saburo Hatte soon after leves the hospital. However, according to the script of the VS movie, Prism Ace and the Akibarangers should join forces to defeat a massive alien armada and now the Unnoficial Sentai must fight it by themselves. Sadly as result, Itashar Robo and Itashar Boy pushing it and Akibarangers must sacrificing themselves to destroy the invaders and save the Earth before Akagi tells everyone to watch Sunday morning.
