Green Park Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kanpur, India. It is the home of the Uttar Pradesh cricket team, as well as a venue for Test and One Day International (ODI) matches. It has a capacity of 45,000 spectators.[1] The ground has hosted 21 Test matches, the first in 1952 when India played England.[2] It has also staged fourteen ODI matches, the first of which was in 1986 when India played Sri Lanka.[3] One of the ODIs held at the stadium was a 1987 World Cup match where Sri Lanka lost to the West Indies by 25 runs.[4] No T20Is have been held at the venue.

In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five-for" or "fifer")[5][6] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement.[7] The first bowler to take a five-wicket haul in a Test match at Green Park was Roy Tattersall in 1952, for England against India. Indian spinner Ghulam Ahmed took a fifer in the second innings of the same match, and England's Malcolm Hilton took the third five-wicket haul of the match during the third innings.[8] With two five-wicket hauls each, Subhash Gupte, Jasubhai Patel, Anil Kumble, Alan Davidson, Wes Hall and Geoff Dymock are the only bowlers to have taken more than one fifer in Test matches at the ground. Gupte and Patel have each taken nine wickets in a single innings at Green Park, with the latter's 9/69 against Australia in 1959 being the best bowling figures in a Test at the ground.[9] Javagal Srinath and Sourav Ganguly are the only bowlers to have taken a five-wicket haul at the ground in ODIs.[10]
