Michael Schlamp (born 30 January 1981) is an Australian ice hockey player currently playing for the Sydney Bears in the Australian Ice Hockey League.
Playing career
Schlamp first played ice hockey in 1997 for the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League.[1] During his first season he played only four games and recorded one goal. The following season he played 20 games for the Blades however failed to score any points, recording only five penalties in minutes. In 2000 Schlamp signed with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.[1] He competed in two seasons with the Bruins recording 37 points, 26 of them in his first season. Following the end of his second season with the Bruins Schlamp moved to Australian and signed with the Newcastle North Stars of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) for the 2002 AIHL season.[1] Schlamp left the North Stars at the end of the season. In 2007 Schlamp returned to ice hockey when he signed with the Sydney Bears of the Australian Ice Hockey League. In 2011 Schlamp was named team captain for the Bears.[1]
Schlamp was first called up to represent Australia in 2012 where he joined the national senior team to compete at the 2012 IIHF World Championship Division I Group B tournament being held in Krynica, Poland. Australia finished last and were relegated to Division II Group A for the following year, while Schlamp recorded three points in his five games and finished with a plus/minus of –5 for the tournament.[2]
Personal life
Schlamp was born on 30 January 1981 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.[1] He started playing ice hockey at the age of six. Schlamp holds multiple citizenship for both Australia and Canada.[3]
