Monica Bonvicini (born 1965) is an Italian sculptor, photographer, video artist and university professor, active in Italy, Germany, and the United States.
Life
Bonvicini was born in Venice and studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia. Her work has been featured in the Berlin Biennale (1998, 2003), the Istanbul Biennial (2003), and the Venice Biennale (2001, 2005, 2011 and 2015), and had solo institutional presentations at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2002), Modern Art Oxford (2003), the Art Institute of Chicago (2009), the Kunstmuseum Basel (2009), the Kunsthalle Fridericianum in Kassel (2011), Centro de Arte Contemporaneo de Malága (2011), and the Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2012).[1]
She won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1999, the National Gallery Prize for Young Art in Berlin in 2005, and the Rolandpreis für Kunst in Bremen in 2013. Since 2003 Bonvicini has been Professor of Sculpture and Performance at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna. In 2012 she created the light installation Run for the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park in London. Another Bonvicini's sculpture, She Lies, is permanently anchored in the Oslo Opera House harbour.
