Padmini Rout (born January 5, 1994) is an Indian chess player who holds the titles of International Master and Woman Grandmaster. She won the World under-14 girls' championship in 2008 and the Indian women's championship twice (in 2014 and 2015).
She was honoured with the Ekalavya Award by Orissa Government in 2009.[1]
Career
Born in Barambagarh, Odisha,[2][3] Padmini Rout started playing chess at the age of nine (2003) because of her father's passion for the game.
In 2005 and 2006, she was both the Indian under-13 girls champion and the Asian under-12 girls champion.[4] Padmini Rout won the U14 girls' section of both Asian[5] and World Youth Chess Championships in 2008. The following year she finished first in the Asian Junior (Under-20) Girls Championship.[6] In 2010 she won the Indian junior (U19) girls championship[4] and took the bronze medal at both Asian[7] and World Junior Girls Championships.[8][9]
In the Asian Individual Women's Championship 2011 she tied for 2nd–6th.[10] Padmini Rout won the Indian Women's Championship in 2014[11] and 2015. In 2015 she also became the Commonwealth women's champion.[12] Padmini Rout won an individual gold medal playing on the reserve board for the Indian national team at the 2014 Women's Chess Olympiad in Tromsø, Norway.[13]
Personal life
She graduated in Commerce from BJB College in Bhubaneswar.[4]
