Born in Suwon, Paik joined Daedong Primary School, where he scored 30 goals on 18 games. On December 2009, Paik participated in a tournament held in Catalonia, Spain, as a member of South Korea U-14 team. In this tournament, his performance caught the attention of the manager of FC Barcelona youth team. On February 2010, he entered FC Barcelona youth team.
