Racine is an unincorporated community in Newton County, Missouri, United States. It is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Many of the original settlers who arrived before the Civil War are buried in Burkhart Cemetery just northeast of town at the junction of what is now known as Juniper and Jasmine Drives. Due to its proximity to many of the back-roads into the "dry state" of Oklahoma, illegal alcohol and low-tax tobacco was bootlegged through this part of Missouri up to the 1960s.

Location and Geography

Racine is located along the Frisco Railroad tracks between Neosho and Seneca, Missouri in Lost Creek Valley. Racine is on Route 86 where Route K and Route CC intersect. It is positioned geographically between 3 other towns. It is 6 miles west of Neosho, 10 miles south of Joplin, and 5½ miles northeast of Seneca.

Buildings

Despite the small size of the town, there are several churches, including two Apostolic Churches and a large Christian church. There are homes, a post office, and a small fire station that is part of the Redings Mill Fire Department. In addition, the town has a small, locally owned general store, gas station, and eatery (as one business), and a couple of other locally owned businesses.

Schools

Most students publicly schooled in the Racine area attend the Seneca, MO School District.
