Sônia Bone Guajajara (born 1974) is a Brazilian environmental and indigenous activist of the Guajajara people.
She was born in a village in the Amazonian rain forest in Maranhão state.[1] She studied at an agricultural college in Minas Gerais and continued with studies in education at the Federal University of Maranhão.[2]
She is a Socialism and Liberty Party candidate for the vice-presidency of Brazil, the first indigenous person to run for that position, with Guilherme Boulos running for president.[3][1] She has organized a number of major demonstrations in support of indigenous rights in Brazil and played an important role in facilitating a meeting of indigenous leaders with the president of Brazil Dilma Rousseff in 2013.[4]
Guajajara is the leader of Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (pt) (Articulation of the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil) which represents more than 300 indigenous ethnic groups in Brazil.[1]
In 2015, she was named to the Brazilian Ordem do Mérito Cultural. She was also awarded the Medal of Honour by Maranhão state.[1]
She was invited onstage by Alicia Keys during Rock in Rio 2017, speaking over Keys' song Kill Your Mama.[2]
