Background

Saint Joseph Academy was established in 1890 by the Congregation of St. Joseph.[2] The Academy is owned by the Congregation of Saint Joseph and operated by the Congregation of St. Joseph and a Board of Trustees representing the religious, business, professional, and local communities. The Academy was one of the first area high schools dedicated to the education of young women[citation needed] and is currently the only all-girls Catholic high school in the City of Cleveland.

Academics

Saint Joseph Academy is in compliance with the State of Ohio Accreditation Board and has been a member in good standing of the North Central Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges since 1939 and of the Ohio Catholic Schools Accrediting Association since its inception. Saint Joseph Academy offers a variety of classes including Honors classes in every subject area, Irish Literature, Mandarin Chinese, Pre-Engineering, Web & Graphic Design and advanced Science and Math classes.

Block scheduling

Block scheduling differs significantly from a traditional schedule. At Saint Joseph Academy, each student has only four 85-minute classes per day. At the end of one semester, a student will have completed the equivalent of one academic year of study due to the extended classroom time in each subject.

Clubs and activities

The school's Latin Club functions as a local chapter of both the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL)[3] and National Junior Classical League (NJCL).[4] SJA offers a wide variety of clubs and extra curricular activities to accommodate a myriad of interests: Art & Knitting, Book Club, Chess Club, Chinese Club, Drama Club, Environmental Club, Engineering Club, Film Buffs, Irish Club, Key Club, NHS, JSA, SADD, Spanish Club, Unity Club, French Club, Origami Club, Math Club, Ski Club, Model UN Club, Dumbledore's Army (a Harry Potter club), Newspaper/Yearbook Club, Fitness Club, Student Council, It's Academic Club.[citation needed]

Athletics

The Interscholastic Athletic Program at Saint Joseph Academy hosts 12 sports programs: Soccer, volleyball, cross country, tennis, golf, swimming & diving, basketball, rugby, softball, crew, lacrosse and track & field.
