Sandilya

Shandilya is one of the Brahmin gotras,[1] named after the rishi Sandilya,[2] specifying that individuals of the gotra have Shandilya as one of their patrilineal ancestors. The Shandilya's are held to have constituted one of the three prominent families of Kanyakubja Brahmins.[3]

The Pravaras, or lineages, of the Saṇḍilya gotra are:

  • Kasyapa, Divala, Asita[4]
  • Kasyapa, Avatsara, Nidruva, Rebha, Raibha, Shandila, Shandilya[4]
