Simon Léonidovitch Kozhin (Kojin) (Russian: Семён Леони́дович Ко́жин) (born March 11, 1979 in Moscow) is a Russian painter, graphic artist, decorator, a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia IFA.[1] and the International Arts Fund.[2]

Biography

Simon Léonidovitch Kozhin The surname "Kozhin" is of Swedish origin and people of this surname used to be noblemen. The artist’s grandfather, Simon Mikhailovich Daishutov, was from Platovskaya village, which is at the Don River, and was a serviceman. He was in cavalry during the Civil War and in tank-borne infantry in the 3rd Guards Tank Army during the Great Patriotic War. S. Dashutov, the commander of submachine gunners, inspired his subordinates showing them the example of due courage and bravery. .[3] The artist was named after his granddad.

Mr. Kozhin was born on March 11, 1979 in Moscow. His father, Leonid Arkadyevich Kozhin, is an engineer. His mother, Irina Mikhaylovna Kozhina (née Daishutova), is a historian, movie director, teacher of English. In 1986–1988, he played several bit roles in movies, including those shot at the Gorky Film Production Company.

In 1988—1990, while still studying in a secondary school, Kozhin attended Krosnopresnenskaya Art School in Moscow. In 1990, he entered the N.V. Tomsky Moscow Academic Art Lyceum under the Russian Academy of Arts. Together with his classmates, he visited various Russian towns (Velikie Luki, Ryazan, Solovki[disambiguation needed], the Golden Ring Russia) to write plain airs. His early works don’t show his plastic work characteristic features yet, they are decorative. However, the artist learned to write consciously, analyzing structure, which will be more distinguishable later in the Academy. While studying, Simon rose as a graphic designer and composer. His diploma work was a series of illustrations to "The Complete Course of Russian History".

In 1997, Kozhin entered the Faculty of Fine Art of the Ilya Glazunov Russian Academy of Arts, Sculpture and Architecture. In 2001, he was employed to paint a little picture titled The Holiday. He also developed and created two versions of composition "Maslenitsa. Farewell to Winter". In 2002, he studied in a landscape studio of Aleksander Pavlovich Afonin. In 2003, finished his studies with diploma picture named "Ferapontov Convent".

From 2000 on, the artist takes an active part in various exhibitions. He writes landscapes, still life, genre, historical paintings. His techniques include watercolor, gouache, oil and tempera painting. He is currently living and creating in Moscow. In 2001-2002, he paid creative visits to England. There he painted a series of sketches depicting Haddenham village (Buckinghamshire) sights.

In 2004, he illustrated a biographic children’s book about Luciano Pavarotti in acryl. The book was published in Korea. Mr. Kozhin created a series of graphic sheets after Grimm Brother’s "Rapunzel" and "Hansel and Gretel".

In 2005-2015, he travelled across Russia a lot: Tver Region, Kaluga Region, the Golden Ring of Russia, the Urals. He also created a series of paintings travelling abroad: in England, Malta, Ireland, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Italy, etc. The leading role in Mr. Kozhin’s art is played by mood landscape with accent painting combined with delicate colors in shades of violet and blue predominating.[4] His works combine nature observations and meaningful colors and composition. Sometimes, the artist uses fictional images referring to genre and historical paintings.[5]

Ivan Kupala. Divination on the Wreath. "2008"

His numerous landscapes of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kolomenskoye include genre and historical paintings, as well as sketches written in 2000-2015, "Pomegranate Lane", "[[Ivan Kupala. Divination on the Wreath", "Near the Novodevichy Convent", "Russian Hunt", "New Albion. Sir Francis Drake's Ship "Golden Hind".[6] "Valaam. Wildwood", "Maslenitsa. Farewell to Winter". "An Old Oak in Kolomenskoye]]", "Christmas Divination", "Huntress", "Moscow View With a High-Rise", etc. The artist is highly interested in night city views. The painting technique shows excitement and expression inspired by impressionists. A series of night landscapes was created: "New Year’s Night. Eliseevsky Shop", "The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed", "The Tower Bridge", "The Wellington Arch", etc.

In addition to the city motives, Kozhin uses traditional landscapes themes, as frequently as possible. He prefers less comprehensive topics, rather than panoramic views comprising multiple clear planes and covering vast spaces. His themes are a quite corner of a garden, a snowy forest, light spots on water. Being able to sense the fragile ever-changing beauty of the nature, the artist is a master of expressing its variable shades in the mood. Good examples of the above are "Granny's backyard", "December" and "Bodrum. Pink Sunrise".

After another trip to the UK, Mr. Kozhin painted a series of water-color paintings enchanted by masterpieces of English aquarellists. In 2003, he visited exhibition named "The Poetry of Truth" held in Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. After this event, he painted water-color works "Malta", "The Connemara", "Notley Abbey in England", etc. These works are filled with fresh air and lightness characteristic of water-colors. The artist uses wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet painting techniques attempting at creating jewelry effect without using white.

In 2000-2006, Mr. Kozhin often creates still life. Just like in landscapes, he isn’t satisfied by simply enjoying shapes and colors. He uses the Flemish technique, paints still life on tessellated board. His compositions are original in ideological basis, composite in structure and techniques, filled with associations, e.g. "Still Life with Lobster", "Still Life with Shells", "Still Life with Flowers". Imitation of Flemish Painting.

In 2001-2007, Kozhin turns to historic painting and creates a number of sketches and pictures dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812, including "Requiem to Tuchkov", "Rubicon. Denis Davidov’s Troops Crossing the River. 1812. " 2001, "Napoleon's Running Away from the Cossacks". The choice of the topic and its artistic expression were in tune with the author’s patriotic and freedom-loving aspirations. After the artist’s works were demonstrated at the "Primavera[disambiguation needed]" Exhibitions held in the Central House of Artists in 2002-2005, the artist became a famous and recognized master of historical painting. About that time, the artist conceive a passion for animal painting, as it was necessary to paint historical pictures. At the time, he specialized in pastel and water-color painting and created mostly paintings of horses and other animals. In this period, works show predominantly images of horses on indefinite background. The artist uses a limited range of colors and accentuates anatomy and color shape-modeling. The artist experience of work in film industry is quite interesting. He had his first experience in art synthesis[disambiguation needed] when he still was a student. In 2000, he painted Hands in Theater frame for a diploma work of his friend, Platon Infante-Arana. His graphic work here is characterized by clear lines and surrealistic elements, as it was a Historical Surrealism movie. The frame depicts giant hands manipulating actions of a director in a theater space. Later, he continued his cooperation with cinema. For example, his paintings were used in the background of "Lyubov-Morkov 3" (Lovey Dovey Stuff 3), "Women Do Not Forgive Show" (S52E2) at the "Domashniy" Chanel, which was shot at the "Kozhin Fine Art", the artist’s permanent exposition.[7] In 2014, the artist co-worked with Valdis Pelšs and Dmitri Khaustov, Nikolai Veligzhanin and Yuriy Salnikov in a documental drama film named "People who made the world round", which was transmitted on the Channel 1 on February 22–23, 2015. The artist also created a number of monochromic sketches and comics. .[8] Mr. Kozhin conducts many experiments in terms of techniques to achieve the effect of volume, transparency and multiple layers. His works combine smooth painting and energetic strokes, while also utilizing thickset application at light spots trying to make the painting three-dimensional and deep. In 2006-2015, Mr. Kozhin’s works gained success at the exhibitions and auctions of Russian paintings in Russia, the USA, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland.

His contemplative manner and the poetic gift of an artist able to use various techniques, as well as his exquisite sense of colour distinguish Kozhin from other painters of his generation and make his pictures noticeable in the mostly ambivalent context of today’s artistic life.

He has a wonderful eye color setting. He thinks compositionally in a very interesting way, because it is not enough be able see the colour, but you must have the opportunity to feel the colour picture in such a way, it could give you a plastic, picturesque and colorful imagine. And he is able to do it!
