Music career
In the early 1980s he formed the Sydney thrash metal band Slaughter Lord, who recorded some demos before disbanding. Hughes then joined Mortal Sin in 1989 and stayed with them until 1991. In 1993, he became an original member of the black metal band Nazxul and also performed in the rock band Presto.
Comedy career
Hughes began his comedy career in the mid 1990s at an open mic night at the Sydney Comedy Store, quickly progressing through the amateur ranks to become one of Australia's premier and most sought-after comedy acts.[citation needed] During this time he was also a host for MTV Australia. After his success on the Australian scene Hughes moved to the UK in 2002 to begin his work in UK stand-up. Following successful Edinburgh Festival appearances Hughes established himself, and lives in the city of Manchester.
While in Australia Hughes performed in both the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival and, during the Sydney Comedy Festival, filmed several shows to be released on DVD. Hughes also recorded a film clip for his upcoming musical release Sumaire, in which he plays all parts.[citation needed]
Hughes supported Reginald D. Hunter on his 2011 British tour and Belgian comedian Alex Agnew on his 2011 "Larger than Life" best-of tour.
