Teonthar is a town and a nagar panchayat in Rewa district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Geography

Teonthar is located at Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found..[1] It has an average elevation of 151 metres (495 feet). At the old time teonthar was ruled by kol raja's. Teonthar is the oldest route from north india to south india. Teonthar is known for its second century old boudha stupa, which is situated at deor kothar area of teonthar. It is very important place to know about baudha culture. Teonthar resided on the bank of tamas river (Anciant name of tamas is tamsa as cited in Great ramayana). Teonthar is a better place for water sport.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Teonthar had a population of 15,249. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Teonthar has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 43%. In Teonthar, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.
