History
The Las Vegas Sands began planning the $1.8 billion[citation needed] resort, aiming to bring new luxury to the Las Vegas Strip. The Shoppes at the Palazzo, a 450,000 ft², rivals The Forum Shops at Caesars, the primary luxury shopping destination on the Strip for decades. The shopping venue opened on January 18, 2008.
With more than 60 high-end shops and restaurants, the Shoppes at the Palazzo brings 34 new-to-market stores and restaurants to the Las Vegas metro. The shops are anchored by an 85,000 ft² Barneys New York, the fourth largest store in the country.[citation needed] In addition to Barneys, the Palazzo adds over 20 new luxury fashion designers and retailers.
In addition, the shops adds 14 new fine dining restaurants from a number of award-winning[citation needed] chefs.[who?]
