WSAQ is an American radio station in Port Huron, Michigan, broadcasting at 107.1 MHz. It is branded as "Q-Country 107" and features a locally programmed country music format. WSAQ is owned by Radio First.
Technical
WSAQ broadcasts with 6,000 watts of power from the same site as AM 1450 WHLS, which is located on 32nd Street in Port Huron Township. WSAQ often interferes with WTLZ in Saginaw east of Imlay City and Lapeer; however, with a rotational antenna both stations can be received in these areas. WSAQ serves northeastern Macomb County, eastern St. Clair County, and southeastern Sanilac County. It also serves Sarnia and a decent area of Canada. WSAQ can be heard as far north as Port Sanilac and Sandusky, and as far south as Roseville. It can be heard as far west as Capac/Imlay City, but often has interference with WTLZ of Saginaw.
As of late 2009, WSAQ started broadcasting Radio Data System information (RDS)
Spring Anniversary Show
Every spring in April Q Country hosts the annual Spring Anniversary Show, where the tickets are given away and won by listners. The event is hosted by Q Country at the McMorran Place Arena. The event has seen people like Blake Shelton, Craig Campbell, and Lee Brice.
History
In 1964, the station signed on for the first time as WHLS-FM. Featuring a simulcast of the AM station and then later a beautiful music format, it was soon renamed WSAQ, and adopted a country music format in spring 1982.[1] In 2000 Hanson Communications sold 1590 WHLX, 1380 WPHM, and 96.9 WBTI to Liggett Communications. Liggett, which was also in the process of acquiring Hanson's competitor, WHLS-AM and WSAQ-FM, decided to co-locate all five stations at 808 Huron Street, which was the main base of operations for WHLS and WSAQ. All five stations now belong to Radio First, and have been since 2001.
