The village sits within a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The old Way Out Inn is now a tea shop and the hamlet sits within orchard filled countryside and is very close to Canterbury and the Coast. Westmarsh is one of the last unspoilt areas of Kent with a wealth of (sometimes very rare) wildlife and abundant natural beauty.[citation needed] The Way Out Inn was previously The Rose Inn prior to the inn closing down.

The village society revolves around the village hall where community events are held. The village has a number of important historic buildings including a fine example of a Tudor country house, Wingham Barton Manor, and one of the oldest surviving isle barns in the country, Barton Barn.[citation needed]
