Yasser Saeed Al-Qahtani (Arabic: ياسر القحطاني‎‎; born 10 October 1982) is a Saudi Arabian footballer who plays as a striker for Al-Hilal FC in the Saudi Professional League. He was also captain of the Saudi Arabian national team. In 2005, he moved to Al-Hilal.

O. 7 November 2015 'El Capitano' scored a hat-trick and missed an open goal in Al-Hilal's historic 5-0 win against Atletico Madrid. His performance in that game has been compared to the legendary Captain Majed due to their similar playing styles.

Asian Football player of the Year 2007

After leading Saudi Arabia to the finals of Asian Football Cup, he was awarded the best player award in Asia.[2] He was also the top scorer of Asian cup competition held in 2007[3]

Interest from EPL league in England

Yasser received an offer to try out for Man City, after he won the best player in Asia award[4]

"I'm now in England after I got an invitation letter from Manchester City," Al Qahtani said.[5]

Joining Al Ain , UAE

Yasser in 2011 after he returned from injuries he was not in form and could not het a place in starting lineup, it is then that he tried to play professional outside of Saudia. He joined UAE, larges clubs Al Ain, and played 1 season on loan with Al Ain.[6]

His form and scoring again captured interest from Hilal who wanted Al Qahtani back after the loan spell ended.[7][8]

Under joint coaching of Sami Al Jaber & Laurențiu Reghecampf Al Qahtani reached the finals of Asian Champions League in 2014 where his team took runners up.[9]

World Cup 2006 Germany

He played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup where he scored a goal against Tunisia, which marked his great movement and composure in front of goal.[10]

Asian Cup 2007

In 2007, Saudi just had received new coach Dos Anjos from Brazil and he added his magic in the chemistry of the Saudi Team, and the team played with flair, finesse and deft class unseen in Asia.[11]

The Epic Semi Final Match in that Asian cup would remained a favorite for many fans, which Saudia won 3-2 to beat their Arch nemesis Japan.[12]

Qahtani was also the Top Scorer in the cup.[13]

World Cup qualification for 2010 South Africa Campaign

In 2010, world cup qualifiers final stages, Qahtani was injured in qualifying game vs Uzbekistan. They injury kept him out of key qualifying phase. Even after his return he was out of form due to inactivity. The Saudi National Team still managed to almost qualify to the 2010 world cup. They needed to beat North Korea in Riyadh in last game, however, that game ended scoreless. By this time a youthful newcomer Naif Hazzi was scoring goals for Saudia, however Hazzazi[14] would have an ACL injury just before the crucial last game which meant Saudia went into final game short handed in attack.

Asian champions league

Al-Qahtani has presently rank #9 on all time goal scoring chart for Asian Champion's league with 16 goals in Champion's league. One other key statistic that Qahtani enjoys is that he also has a very healthy habit of proving chances to his supporting strikers and teammates, Al-Qahtani was able to extract some revenge against his rival Younis Mohmood (Iraq), in Champions league[15][16]

2010, 2014 Qahtani Reached the Semi Finals of the Asian Champion's League[17]

In 2014 Al-Qahtani captained Al-Hilal in the AFC Champions League, where they finished runners up, losing to Western Sydney Wanderers in the final 1-0 on aggregate..
