Zhang Jie also known as Jason Zhang is a Chinese pop singer and actor who rose to fame through televised singing competitions.

Music career

In 2004, Zhang Jie rose to fame after winning the first season of My Show (我型我秀) and was signed to Shang Teng Universal. The lead single, 北斗星的爱 (Love of the Plough) recorded in Zhang's debut album, The First Album (2005) (第一张) earning Zhang numerous 'Newcomer' awards e.g. Global Chinese Music Chart Most Popular Male Newcomer award. After the release of his second album, Love Me Again (2006) (再爱我一回), Zhang's music career was at stake due to the top management changes of the record company. In 2007, Zhang decided to take part in Hunan TV's famous show Super Boy. Zhang, the third runner-up of the show signed a deal with EE-Media had released an EP in the same year, which significantly marked a fresh restart of his career. Zhang has been regarded as one of the leading singers in the Chinese music industry as well as the most popular idol of the young generation in the Mainland China. At age 32, he has already recorded over 10 hit albums since 2004 and throughout his career has released 8 top hit singles in China which have received an average of over 112 million plays,[2] with all of his concerts sold out. In January 2014, Zhang was invited to take part in I Am a Singer as the 'substitute' of Gary Chaw who was eliminated in Round 2 of Season 2. Although Zhang had not won the competition in the end, his performance has nevertheless won critical acclaim from many prominent musicians and singers and earned him a growing fan base. Zhang has been invited to perform in several major events such as CCTV Spring Festival Gala 2013 and Opening Ceremony of the Nanjing Youth Olympics 2014. In November 2014, Zhang was presented with the International Artist Award at the 2014 American Music Awards, making him the first Chinese singer who was awarded such award.

Personal life

On September 26, 2011, Zhang Jie and his girlfriend Xie Na married at Shangri-La, China - The Nearest Place to Heaven on Earth. They had a meaningful ceremony there, surrounded by family and their closest friends such as the Happy Family who host the Happy Camp, Nicky Wu, Xiaoshenyang, Bowie Tsang, etc.

In 2014, he became the product ambassador of Xiaomi brand in China.[3]
