The 2016 Ulster Senior Hurling Championship is the 68th staging of the Ulster hurling championship since its establishment by the Ulster Council in 1901.[1] Changes have been made to the 2016 format with Antrim no longer receving a bye to the final. Other changes include the introduction of a second tier competition namely the Ulster Senior Hurling Shield which will involve four counties Donegal, Fermanagh, Monaghan and Tyrone with the winner gaining promotion to the Ulster Senior Hurling Championship for 2017 with the losing semi finalists in this years Senior Championship playing a relegation play off with the loser dropping to the Senior Shield for 2017.
