Face of Denmark is a national Beauty pageant in Denmark that selects the representative to the Miss Universe, Miss Earth, Miss International and Miss Supranational pageants.[1]

Organization

Since 2015 The Face of Denmark competition operates its own production under Anders Hamilton de Voss and his partner John Paul Hamilton de Voss.

Several former titleholders who have achieved success abroad representing Denmark are on the board of national directors for the Face of Denmark organization. They include: Catharina Svensson, the first Miss Earth winner from Denmark, Aino Korva, Miss Denmark 1963 and first runner-up at Miss Universe 1963, Pia Larsen, Miss Denmark 1986, and first runner-up at Miss International 1986 and Miss World 1986, Zaklina Sojic, Miss Universe Denmark 2007 and top 15 at Miss Universe 2007, and Mette Riis Sørensen, Miss International Denmark 2015 serve on the board of directors for Face of Denmark.[2][3] [4]

Pageant system

Girls that apply for Face of Denmark must submit applications online to be considered. Starting in 2016, these delegates will be narrowed down to a top 15 decided on by the organization.

The delegates do not pay an entrance fee, and are selected based on their physical beauty, personality, intelligence, and competitive edge. Physical measurements are not taken into consideration. Once the semi-finalists are selected, they are given the option to choose three regional titles depending on where they are originally from or where they currently live in Denmark. The titles are then assigned based on a "first come, first serve" basis, and the girls are subsequently "crowned" and unveiled to the public. The girls undergo rigorous boot camps for walking, interview, physical fitness, styling and more. The semi-finalists participate in photoshoots, videotaping and more. During the finale weekend, hair, make-up, swimsuit, and evening gowns are provided for the finalists free of charge. The competitors are judged in a preliminary competition prior to the finals, which includes an individual four-minute personality interview, and swimsuit preview. Preliminaries are held privately and are not open to the public.

During the finals, the girls recompete in swimsuit, evening gown, and all are asked two on stage questions, one in Danish and one in English. The combined scores from the prelims and the finale determine the placements. In 2016 these placements are: Miss Supranational Denmark, Miss International Denmark, Miss Earth Denmark, and Miss Universe Denmark. The four titles are considered equally important and have separate duties.

Notes

Supermodel Helena Christensen began her career in 1986 as Miss Universe Denmark. In the same year, Pia Rosenberg Larsen won Miss Denmark and competed at Miss International, where she placed as first runner-up. In 1993, T.V. personality and actress Maria Hirse won Miss Universe Denmark, but like Helena Christensen, failed to place at Miss Universe.[9][10]

This contest is unrelated to the Miss Denmark pageant.
