Early life
Park Chanyeol was born on Seoul, South Korea. He attended Hyundai High School in Apgujeong-dong, Seoul. He has a sister named Park Yoora, who is an Announcer at MBC Broadcasting Station in South Korea. His parents own an Italian restaurant "Viva Polo" in Seoul.
November 27, 1992 inChanyeol was admitted to a private acting institution when he was sixteen years old, where he became good friends with Block B's P.O.[1] He is currently a student majoring in Culture and Art Management at Kyung Hee Cyber University alongside some of his fellow EXO members of Suho, Baekhyun, and Kai.[2]
After watching School of Rock in elementary school, Chanyeol became interested in music and he soon began playing the drums.[3] Chanyeol, started dreaming of becoming a singer after listening to Unconditional Kismet by Yoo Young-jin.[4] When he was a first year student in middle school, he joined a band with his best friends and played with them for about three years.[citation needed] He was accepted as a trainee under SM Entertainment after coming in second place in the 2008 Smart Model Contest. While training under S.M., he began to turn his focus towards rapping.
In 2016, during the two-day EXO'luXion concerts in Manila from January 23–24, he revealed that he had stayed in the Philippines in 2007 to study English, which is a very popular destination choice for Koreans wanting to learn the language.[5]
Career
Pre-debut
Chanyeol was accepted into S.M. Entertainment during his first year of high school after winning second place in the 2008 Smart Model Contest. During this time, he was involved in his school's band, "Siren". He made several media appearances prior to his debut with EXO, including TVXQ's music video for "HaHaHa Song" in 2008 and Girls' Generation's music video for the Japanese version of "Genie" in 2010.

In 2014, Chanyeol wrote the rap for the Korean version of the track "Run" from Exo's second EP and was featured in labelmates Henry and Zhou Mi's debut EPs. In 2015, along with fellow Exo members Chen and Lay, he co-wrote the Korean version of the track "Promise" from the the re-release edition Love Me Right of Exo's second studio album.[6] He later wrote the rap for "Lightsaber", Exo's promotional single for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The song also appeared in Exo's third EP. In 2016, Chanyeol wrote and performed the rap in Yesung's song "Confession" from the latter's debut EP.[7]
Chanyeol has cited Jason Mraz and Eminem as his biggest influences, though he was a fan of rock bands like Muse, Green Day, Nirvana, and X-Japan in middle school.[8]
Acting and television
In 2014, he became a cast member of SBS's reality television shows Law of the Jungle in Micronesia[9] and Roommate. He left Roommate in September because of scheduling conflicts.[10]
In April 2015, Chanyeol made his big screen debut in the South Korean movie Salut d'Amour alongside actress Moon Ga-young, who he later co-starred with in the web-drama EXO Next Door.[11] In October 2015, he was announced to be playing the male lead role alongside actresses Yuan Shanshan and Seo Ju-hyun in the South Korean-Chinese movie So I Married an Anti-fan, which is set to be released in June 2016.
In April 2016, Chanyeol was announced to be starring alongside actor Kang Ha-neul in the upcoming MBC television drama, Gaia. [12]
