Pontechianale is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) southwest of Turin and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest of Cuneo, on the border with France. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 202 and an area of 94.5 square kilometres (36.5 sq mi).[1]
The municipality of Pontechianale contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Maddalena (capoluogo), Castello, Villaretto, Rueite, Genzana, Forest, and Chianale.
Pontechianale borders the following municipalities: Bellino, Casteldelfino, Crissolo, Oncino (Italy), Molines-en-Queyras, Ristolas, Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, and Saint-Véran (France).
