Tau Persei (Tau Per, τ Persei, τ Per) is multiple star system in constellation of Perseus, with an apparent magnitude of +3.93. The primary component is a yellow G-type giant. It is approximately 248 light years from Earth.
Tau Persei is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 2.8 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 24,100 and 34,200 light years from the center of the Galaxy.[1]
Naming
In Chinese, 大陵 (Dà Líng), meaning Mausoleum, refers to an asterism consisting of τ Persei, 9 Persei, ι Persei, κ Persei, β Persei, ρ Persei, 16 Persei and 12 Persei. Consequently, τ Persei itself is known as 大陵二 (Dà Líng èr, English: the Second Star of Mausoleum.).[2]
